RESULTS FROM PAST SWIM & TRI EVENTS (EBSC/EBTC)
UP COMING TEAM EVENTS English Bay Swim Club hosted this past year’s B.C. Provincial Swim Championships at our very own Vancouver Aquatic Centre! It was the largest B.C. Provincials to-date, with 295 swimmers participating from B.C., Alberta and the U.S.. Most people agreed there was a wonderful positive "vibe" over the weekend and we received many appreciative comments from the swimmers who enjoyed themselves. There were 35 records broken during the competition (34 B.C., 25 Canadian and one World Record—broken by Sarah MacDonald from Victoria Maters who swam 50m free in a time of 27.96). The meet was officially opened on Saturday morning with brief remarks from Councillor David Cadman - Deputy Mayor of Vancouver, and Lisa Martella - Executive Director of ‘A Loving Spoonful’, our main charity beneficiary of the meet. English Bay’s own chorister, treasurer and registrar, Patrick McGowan, led the singing of ‘Oh Canada’. Here are the top 10 teams: ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ >)))"> ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ |
Do you have a friend who wants to swim with us but isn't at the minimum requirement of being able to swim 1600m in one hour? If so, please pass this along! We are very pleased that EBSC's inaugaral 'Learn-to-Swim' program last January was a success! So much so that we are planning on running it again this coming season! Here are some details of what we're planning: Cost per person: TBD Lessons: At Vancouver Aquatic Centre on Beach Avenue (underneath the Burrard Bridge) at either 10AM or 10:45AM. Swimmers will be grouped by ability. Class size: Maximum limit of 6 people per 45-minute session, for a total of 12 people. EBSC will provide our head coach, Khosro Mansuri, who will be dedicated to the swimmers in this program. Start date: TBA Minimum ability: we ask that you know how to swim Front Crawl (also called Freestyle) and one other stroke of either Breaststroke, Backstroke, or Butterfly. Alternatively, if you've reached Level 4 of Vancouver Aquatic Centre's adult swim classes, you can join the Learn-to-Swim program. The aim of these lessons is to bring your swimming ability (we hope) up to our minimum swimming level at EBSC of 1600m in one hour, and to help you improve your stroke technique and have a little fun along the way. If you don't decide to join the club afterwards, don't worry! as there's no obligation to join. However, we look forward to providing you the opportunity to love swimming as much as we do! Interested swimmers can sign up here. We look forward to hearing from you! Your Exec! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ >)))"> ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The Exec has decided to put our Monthly Pizza Nights on hold for the time being and try out 4 'Pot Luck Suppers' spread out over the year. Two of these are already in existance - the Christmas Party & the Year End Party. The other two will occur in October and March. We are hoping that this change will encourage more members to take part in our social activities. Note: Members who offer their homes for these pot lucks will see our social co-ordinator take care of most of the preparations and a hired cleaning staff make their homes sparkle like brand new after the event! |
